Born Jaime Royal Robertson in Toronto in 1943, he left home to pursue a career in music at age 16. As a founding member of The Band, Robertson turned their final performance into a launching pad for his career as a film composer. "The Last Waltz" was his first collaboration with director Martin Scorsese. Their work together continued through a number of dramatic films, including Raging Bull (1980), The King of Comedy (1983), Casino (1995), The Departed (2006), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) and The Irishman (2019).
